JOHN DALY, renowned for his ‘grip it and rip it’ approach, is now having to drip it and sip it.

Golf’s Wild Thing, 42, has revealed it takes him an hour to drink a beer.

He has had a gastric band fitted to help him lose weight — and he has already shed three stone after deciding it was time for drastic action when he ballooned to more than 20st.

Daly is not playing at The Masters — he is serving a six-month ban from the US Tour for unruly behaviour at a tournament.

Instead, he has been forced to sell flags, T-shirts and merchandise from a stall down the road from Augusta’s clubhouse, as he tries to see off the threat of bankruptcy.

Daly, happy to talk about his latest flab fight, said: I’m on a high- protein diet and I’m eating less because I have to chew my food for so long.
