Band aid pair shed 14 stone
THE first couple to have his-and-hers gastric bands fitted on the NHS have jointly lost 14 STONE.
Retired fireman Roy Glencross, 61, and wife Kate, 60, had their £24,000 keyhole ops last June.
Before that he would usually gorge on an English breakfast, fish and chip lunch and full supper, plus snacks and cola. Kate had a similar diet — and both spent their evenings slumped before the telly.
Now the grandparents of ten have stomachs the size of a satsuma. Roy, of Fleet, Lincs, has dropped from 26st 7lbs to 18st 7lbs. Kate went from 18st 7lbs to 12st 2lbs.
She said: “Before I was a lump waiting to die.”
EX-RUGBY player Paul Barkley, 34, of Doncaster, South Yorks, has gone from 27st to 12st 7lbs after a gastric band op.

I wish them both well but how come it was so expensive on the NHS?
Y cant the NHS fund these ops. In Northern Ireland no one can even get on the LIST. I got the op via the NHS but had been on the list for several years as had the people who travelled over with me for Fri 13th Feb 09 surgery. My bro who was obese as well (Family Genes) had 2 pay 4 his op which I think is a total disgrace as he was disbetic & had cellulitus. My son is also ‘large’ & v unhappy with his weight & all that goes with it, depressed, doesnt go out, eats, diets, gains weight, play footie, eats, diets, gains, the circle. No help 4 him out there… except if he pays.. and as he’s on a low income that is not an option as he needs car 4 work etc & wages dont go far…. I also feel that as my & my bro’s surgeon has said its a gene problem that the NHS should help… but hey who even reads these sites r answers any queries .. certainly no1 from the NHS in Northern Ireland… well that let a bit of steam off..
