Anne Diamond has gastric band fitted because of weight problem
An inability to reduce her weight of almost 16st without immediately putting the pounds back on led Anne Diamond to seek bariatric surgery “as a last resort”.
The former television presenter, now patron of the National Obesity Forum, said she realised that the health risks she faced while morbidly obese were too great to continue a losing battle with yo-yo dieting. Instead, following medical advice, she opted for a gastric band to be put round her stomach, just under two years ago. She has also had some behavioural therapy, and her weight has dropped dramatically, to about 10st.
Describing the procedure as extremely nerve-racking, Ms Diamond told The Times that it had been worth it to bring consistency to her weight loss, but it should be considered the last option. “Left to my own devices I was going to lose weight, and then put on even more weight,” she said.

Whilst weight loss is key, I am delighted that Anne put the risks of morbid obesity on her health to the front of her mind when she chose to have her lapband fitted. I’ve had experience with over 1,500 gastric band patients and the procedure is proven to successfully improve health and cure diseases related to obesity (co-morbidities) such as type 2 diabetes, asthma, sleep apnoea and hypertension (high blood pressure). With an expert surgeon (essential) and the assessment and long-term care of a specialist bariatric Multi-disciplinary team, the gastric band operation has very good long term results. Risks and complications tend to happen later, such as band slippage or erosion, and largely result from poor aftercare, patient selection and patient compliance. As Anne states, the journey with a gastric band is not easy, but specialist help and care every step of the way improves the chances of a successful and safe long term result. We (Vita Clinics) work closely with organisations such as The National Obesity Forum to help get these messages across.
